when i attempt fix any engine before i even try to start it is a compression test > 1st you see the plugs and that there tells a story alone . then once you crank each cylinder 4 or 5 times you know exactly the cause of death > myself i like to know were i stand compression wise if you have even comp across all the cylinders the engine COULD be made to run well after some fooling around in other areas if comp is good check timing like chris said the ignition for spark > i pull one wire off at time to see how much each cylinder is contributing to over engines performance > by pulling one wire off you will know instantly which cylinders are not working the engine speed will drop on cylinders that are working and will not skip a beat on dud cylinders . when you pull the plug wire off running you can see if there is a spark . if no spark test the plug wire or substitute one and see if that helps .Starting out like that quickly narrows down the chase for problems,,,good luck ~ Copey
