Greetings:

I've been away for while, starting a new business or two, trying to stay solvent during the "Change we can believe in" era.

I have had my 1954 PW on Ebay for a while, reluctantly, but life is short and I need the cash.

I have a guy from South Carolina contact me during the auction. He was the high bidder who wanted me to end the auction early, and send me a $500 non-refundable deposit, the balance to follow when the truck was on the trailer to him. I said "sure" send me the money via PayPal.

The deal is that when his transporter comes to pick up the truck, the driver will do an inspection, and phone the buyer with the verdict about the truck's condition. At that time the buyer will release funds electronically to my bank, and off goes the truck.

He sends the $500 and it clears the bank. Then I get a strange email from him, saying he wants to talk. I get him on the phone, and he says "I got some bad juju from this whole deal."

I ask him what he means. I say "I know what bad juju means, just tell me, in plain English, what your misgivings are." He can't put it into words, and just keeps repeating that he has bad juju and bad vibes from me and the auction. I continue to question him, and I admit I got a bit short with the guy when he mentions that he's "from the South, and don't trust them Yankees from New York."

(I didn't bother to get into a Civil War discussion with him. Or a baseball one, either.)

I tell him that if he doesn't want the truck, that's cool, just don't imply that you don't trust me, since you haven't even done a deal with me yet. What can I do to convince you that I'm an honorable guy?

He just keeps saying that he gets bad vibes. There is nothing that has happened so far that would cause him any concern, and I keep repeating that to him, trying to draw him out on what's bugging him.

I offer to send him the transferable registration, before he even sends the rest of the money. Nope, "bad juju."

I offer to give him the names of several fellows I've dealt with on this forum and others, so that he will know that he's dealing with a straight-shooter. Nope, "bad juju."

I get a little pissed at this point and say, how about I send the truck at my own expense to your location, you decide if you want the truck, and if you don't, I'll pay the transportation back here? Nope, "bad juju."

I say, how about I just give you the truck? "Nope, bad juju."

I say, how about I send the truck, and $10,000, and you keep the truck and the money? Nope, "bad vibes about the whole deal."

So, clearly a man with buyer's remorse before he even paid for the truck, OR his wife said "no more trucks" OR he falls into that vast universe of people who don't deserve to be trusted, because they don't trust you.

I will send you his name and Ebay handle, privately, so that you don't get into a deal with this moron.
