i have 52 inch tires on one of my trucks-runnings boards are about 4 feet off the groung. i bolted a length of chain on the running boards so it hangs down in a "U" shape. and you could always weld about 8 inches of the links together across the bottom to make it a flat, solid link step. its works, its easy, and i've yet to catch anything more than a stray small branch. Granted, not pretty, or high tech, but were talking vintage trucks-so vintage techniques. lol
