Thanks for the kind words. I recall the point about the flatheads having the hardened seats but I still would be concerned for long term dedicated use of high concentration alcohol fuel. The thing about the current engines rated to run E85 is that the seat material is even harder than the typical material used in the rest of the regular unleaded/E10 engines. The material is so hard that seat cutting tooling is difficult to maintain, requiring constant quality control. At a prototype level in Serti equipment it actually requires diamond cutters to eliminate chatter as carbide just about bounces off the material. It would be interesting to do a Brinell hardness test on the old 230 seats to see how they compare to the current materials. Simply put based on what damage I’ve seen I can’t recommend running E85 100% of the time in any engine not designed to handle it.
