I had a German shorthair that lived to be about 15. He was a great dog, and my 4 kids all grew up with him and loved him. They could crawl on him, wrestle him, even share his food with him, and he didn't bother them. His only problem was there were certain things he didn't learn. One was that skunks are bad, and the other is that porcupines are worse. I don't know how many times he came home reeking of skunk, or worse yet, with a face full of quills from an encounter with a porcupine. He also had one very serious scrape with some coyotes. But the porcupines were his downfall. I can remember at least 4 or 5 times having to take him to the vet to get them removed. But he lived a long and loved life and we all cried when he left us. Anyway, I guess I'm a little like that old dog. I keep coming home with these trucks. Granted, I haven't had as many as some others, but it seems I just never learn. I used to let my kids crawl on me, wrestle me, and I certainly shared my food with them (and still do). At this time I can only hope that I get somewhere close to the equivalent of human years as my old shorthair got in dog years.
