My dad was concerned his 1 ton 79 Ford camper special pickup was not heavy duty enough for a huge travel trailer. He thought it was overloaded.
I borrowed his truck, went and picked up TWO yards of gravel (5600 lbs), and told him to look at the springs and tires and tell me if it was overloaded. The steering was a bit light but it worked fine. The rear springs still had travel.
He never doubted the trailer tongue weight again, and head years of fine service from it.
BTW, the old guy he bought this truck and trailer from was in his driveway POLISHING HIS LAWNMOWER when we pulled up. That Ford was the cleanest used truck I've ever seen.
