rebuilding powersteering boxes

Hi all, the steering box on my 74crewcab is leaking enough to be annoying, although not enough to use a lot of fluid. Amazing how messy a little bit of red oil can be. To replace seals and so forth, is this a job best handled by a shop? Are any special tools required?
