And many of the nice ones are BARE metal in the upper channels. Never seen much if any paint in the channels, only on the outside portion.
Yes, a tiny bit of paint, or a little zinc could have kept those frames from rusting so bad!
I'll never forget working on a friends 1974 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale convertible with the 455 a number of years ago. Total rust bucket, almost no floors to speak of. I had to replace brake lines on it just so it could be driven home. When I peeled back the carpets to see why it had not just collapsed in the middle I found the rocker panels were all still solid, as they were galvanized. Almost every other lower body panel had areas missing from rust. Got to love Zinc!
