Just a thought. Since main seals are not under pressure from the oil system, that crank pressure may have pushed the oil out. So, maybe the oil was more volatile? Or maybe a hose has a prob, what with your hammy hands fiddling under the hood while filling?
I fersure remember fixing myriad problems on a slant6 one time by cleaning the whole crank vent system. Filter was pluggged solid, and so was the PCV hose. That, a tune up, and replaced the reverss band, and doubled my investment- bought it for $150 and a case of beer, sold it for $300 and TWO cases of beer.
