The stock one is pretty low pressure, only about 3 psi when running. But you can try it,, if inadequate, it will surge at full throttle, like on hills.
I think most of the problems with electrics are cheapness related in the aftermarket. The OE in-the-tank pumps are now ubiquitous, and last 100,000 miles. The are also rotary vane type, NOT pulse pumps. Holley used to make a good rotary pump for external use. Gas actually circulates through the motor, cooling and lubing, just like the in-tank pumps. Costly though. I don't know if there is a cheaper, good alternative.
