Try this site for a wealth of info on Dodge/Cummins trucks. I have a '98 and an '06. They are great trucks. First thing to try to find out is if the former owner replaced the
"killer dowel pin". This is a bugaboo with the engines in that era. There is a dowel pin that helps position the timing cover that can work loose and foul the timing gears and really do some damage to the engine. If you can't find out if it's ever been repaired, it's worth doing it. I had a '92 Dodge/Cummins with 450000 km. The guy I sold it to is still driving it, two years later. Great engines.
