So, still trying to sort out my coolant issues, I take the Power Wagon out this afternoon to pick my Daughter up at a friends house. It is only about 3 miles away. About 1/2 mile from her house, I am on a gradual downhill section, and I realize something is different. It is quiet. Hmmm, I figuer out that it is quiet because I am judt coasting, the engine had quit. I triied downshifting to spin it faster to no avail. I rolled into the friends driveway. I told the Renee, the Mom, that the truck had quit, and I needed to try to figure it out. I looked under the hood and first thing I see is that the fuel filter was dry. I had just filled it a couple of days ago, and have driven it but I didnt think a tankfull. Of course my auxillary tank was empty. I asked Renee if they had a gas can. showed me to the cans and they had a 4 gallon can full. I dumped most of it into the tank, and a bit into the carb. It fired right up on the gas in the carb but wouldnt pull anything on its own. Fuel pump. So, I am needing to get my Daughter home as she and Joan were heading to something this evening. I asked Renee if I could borrow her car to take Claire home and pick up an electric fuel pump I have for just this type of event. She said sure, so off we went. I dropped off Claire and grabbed the pump and a few random tools. I got back and removed my fuel filter and its 2 rubber hoses. I put the electric pump there in its place. I ran the wires for the pump to 2 remote battery posts I have protruding through the grille. I turned on the pump before connecting it to the carb, to make sure it was going to pump, and it did. Dumped a bit more gas down the carb, turned the pump back on and she started right up. I got everything in order and closed the hood. She ran fime on the way home. Once in the driveway, I turned the electric pump off, hoping it was actually a piece of crud that had lodged in the carb, and then blown free by the electric pump. She ran for a bit and quit, so I guess the mechanical one is kaput!
Sorry Bill about the electric pum, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!
