besides increasing compression, what is the benefit of a al head on a dodge? It is cool to be sure. i believe that a properly planed stock head would yield the same performance save the heat savings on the al. doesn't bolting an al head to a steel block with a copper gasket between it cause problems?
i saw a nicely built large flathead locally a few years ago. planed head, hei dist, one wire dist, cam, valves, springs, and split stock exhaust by kansas customs. kept the heat flapper on one half. 2bbl carb on a stock dodge car intake manifold. it was simplicity in its design and execution. i cant recall if it had the 237 crank, but it revved higher than a stock flatty. save the dist and alternator, it looked stock to the untrained eye. i spoke to the guy about power steering through an older generator from mopar and he liked the idea. he knows a company that converts generators inside to be alternators. haven't seen if he went that route.
