The distance between the end of the drag link and the hole for the ball is longer on one end of the drag link than the other. The end with the shorter distance (from the end to the hole) goes to the axle. On the axle end the parts go in this order - 1. end bumper 2. spring 3. ball socket 5. ball 6. ball socket 7. end plug 8. Lock wire 9. Grease nipple. Effectively the spring is behind the ball, away from the axle.
On the other end the assembly puts the spring behind the ball towards the back of the vehicle, so the springs don't work against each other.
