There is a name for people who have gone through what you, Jason, and others have gone through. You're a survivor. And you ARE a better person for it. Not that a guy needs to get hit in the face with a shovel to learn that it hurts and it's better not to have it happen again, but there is a lesson in every thing life presents us with. That's what makes us survivors.
There is no lower form of abuse than child abuse, animal abuse running a very close second. It comes in many forms...physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, etc.
I can't say my dad did the things your dad or Jason's dad did, but I can say that the only time he ever touched me was with a slap on the side of my head when I did something he didn't like. I yearned for him to hug me and say he loved me, to no avail. In spite of all that, I guess I still loved him, because I cried when he died.
I can only try to imagine what your and Jason's and others lives must have been like under those conditions, where that small privilege was withheld from you. But being a survivor says a lot.
Anyway, after all that, I say: "Jason...sell the truck and use the money in the way you need to. We all have had to do it. I've sold trucks, guns, you name it, to provide for my family. It's not fun, and you WILL regret it. But it won't be the last chance you have to find a truck that you like.
Good luck. JH
