Tig is like o/a with a accelorator pedal in my book. Nice process when it is needed.
Truth is when I first ran wire I had a hell of a lot of learning to do. When you've spent years feeding stick intothe ppool breaking the habit is difficult. I spent a few hours welding scrap together to get the hang of it, then I welded half a dozen wheels into a woodstove to assure myself I had the hang of wire. Wire became the choice for alot of projects after that.
Then I picked the stinger up for a job one day and was amazed how poor of a weldor I had become.
It's all a matter of practice time. Once you get it down the onboard brain of a weldor will allow switching back and forth from one process to another and back. Contrary to my wife's opinion weldors do have onboard brains.
I have a man who does all my aluminum for a good reason, Danny is the best. He can run aluminum MIG from a Trailblazer better than most men can run aluminum TIG, and he can go from .030 irrigation pipe to ¼" diamond plate without missing a beat. If he needs to go to TIG he can do that too. Danny doesn't like running stick, but he can and will if he needs to. He does have a mental block that prevents him from carrying sticks on his rig though.
