I been fighting the battle since Indochina Thug Works bought Miller and screwed the dealers who built the Miller brand. Then they bought Hobart Bros and turned the fine name intoa whorehouse.
10 or so years back ITW & Lincoln got in their pissin contest with the 120 volt lunchboxes, and I damn near fell out of the chair laughing. Problem was the public bought the crap. Now every dipstick with an orange apron is a welder salesman and expert.
25 years back I got tired of the "certified weldors" walking in looking for jobs and taught the secretary's 16 year old daughter to run stringers & hotpasses with an old buzbox & 6013. She was cute as hell and looking to make some money on summer vacation, so she took over initial testing on potential newhires. 90% of them just walked back out when she took em over to the machine and gave them a pound of rod. Half of ones who tried couldn't even lay stringers and left when she proved she could. It was one of the best investments I ever made.
