Morning Reid, and welcome to the forum.
Your welding and fabrication/body work skills need to be considered when looking at PW's. A PW found in a field or barn may be more than you want to get involved in. Buying something that is seriously rusted will not save money in the long term. Sheet metal is expensive as are other parts you will need. Putting your money in a sound truck in most cases is a better deal.
You need to decide what the final use of your PW will be. Do you want a fun truck for off road, a truck for off road and highway use, a truck you can drive on long trips. This will all spell out the work needed to achieve that goal. It can be done with a reasonable budget or you can blow the bank on a full resto.
We are all here to help you in any way possible. Dont ever shy away from asking questions. When you locate a PW, ask if anyone here is near that truck. We could be happy to go with you and look it over and give suggestions.
