Its always good to put the tranny into N on start up to help prelube the tranmission at the very least. If its been sitting a while 24 hours or more then it also helps to fill the T converter back back. I would let it idle in N for 30 seconds at least and maybe 1 minute in really cold conditions to help get things flowing. You can also do this to help cool it back down if you are pulling or stuck in slow traffic. Instead of putting it in park put it in N and let the fluid circulate.
