... part rubber bonded to steel, and the bond sometimes fails. If you take the belt off, you may be able to detect a slip by turning the balancer. Keep in mind that the forces present when the engine runs are a lot more than your hands can provide - the balancer may not slip with hand pressure, but may do so under running conditions.
I am lucky to have a couple of great guys here in Tucson who will do work I don't want to do for money - competently too. It is very hard to find people who will work on these old vehicles anymore - at least not competently. It's like a miracle - they pick the truck up, and bring it back with the work done. It seems almost sinful, since I could perfectly well do the work myself, but i get so busy I don't have time anymore.
