Back in the early spring, I was reading on a forum about ZF gear noise. I dont remember the forum, but the following info was on that forum.
ZF's made in Germany have a BLACK LABEL on the side and have gear noise. BLUE LABEL on the side are made in the US with a design change to reduce/eliminate the gear noise. Thats all I remember, they did not give a year span for the gear noise issue. Not much help, but it gives you something to Google for.
