Thats a good question I never considered.
Next time you have a spindle off look behind the two lower bolt holes. You can easily see how a bolt that is to long will actually contact, bind, lockup against the Knuckle Ball. I forget which of the lower holes gets the shorter bolt, but you can easily see it quickly. Now you got me wondering, I wont be able to sleep LOL.
