I believe the US Air FORCE wasn't formed until after WWII. During the war, it was the "US Army Air CORPS". I don't know about other planes, but on the B-17s, I'm pretty sure they bailed out (unfortunately lots of men had to) without oxygen. There was an oxygen system in the plane itself, which wasn't pressurized, of course, but I think when they bailed out they just had to breathe as best they could.
It's still a neat device, and the canvas/leather bag looks like something from WWII, but the "AIR FORCE" nomenclature sounds post-war to me.
