Steve,
Take two 12v batteries and wire them in series.
Pos. post on the first battery goes to the power feed on the lift,the Neg post on the same battery goes to the Pos post on the second battery,then the Neg post of the second battery goes to chassis ground on the lift.
The four 6v batteries have more reserve amperage than two 12 volt batteries.
That's why there used.
If you have room you can use four 12V batteries Two wired parallel and two more wired in parallel then wired in series.
Confused? you should be.
