NP420s are syncro in 3rd and 4th, so if 2nd gear is a straight cut spur gear, it is probably a 420. The 420 also had 1" and 1-3/8" input shafts depending. I don't know if an NP435 ever had a 1-3/8 input, but they were syncro in 2, 3 and 4. I also don't think 435s had dual PTOs... mine doesn't. G
