Just to add my "two bits worth" to the perennial tire question. I've got twenty thousand miles on the NDT tires on the original split rims of my '55 PW. I'm careful cornering on wet pavement, easy on the accelerator with that V-8 conversion, and I've had no problems in the city or on the highway. I went this route for two reasons. First a limited budget, second, friends where doing the same thing with no problems. It's true they do get flat spots, especially in cold weather, but that runs out fast. I've found that my truck corners on dry pavement very well. I do have power steering. As for the safety of split rims. I've never heard of one coming apart, and my local tire shop changes them without "batting an eye" I've helped change split rims twice and there's NO safety problem if it's done correctly. It's not "rocket science". Learn how it's done safely. I'm sticking with split rims and NDT's until after I pay for fuel injection and a new paint job,
regards,
Bill
