I've got radials on my '52 and they handle much better on the road than the older tires and wheels. Plus, the older nylon tires developed flat spots from sitting.
I don't trust split rims tires. even experienced tire mechanics have had troubles with them. Stokton wheel can also make the tubeless rims for the 5 on 6 7/8 bolt pattern wheels. With radil tires, you have a better selection and availability of rubber to choose from. On another note, i had a '54 Dodge coronet once that followed every carck and ridge in the road. I had the front end completely rebuilt. It still followed every crack on the way home. A cheap set of radial tires solved that problem.
