"Just quit" sounds pretty gentle. As in "running out of gas, it just quit". Having the engine lock up while driving would be akin to slamming on the brakes and skidding to a stop. Or, at least until he had the presence of mind to hit the clutch or kick it out of gear. Either way, for a second or two it would have been prett exciting! I have had my kids under report the severity of various events, maybe its time to begin the real interrogation!
