I have delt with a few trucks where an owner sold it to someone and signed off on the title. That someone ended up storing the truck, putting the title in a safe, starting a restoration, used the truck for parts, or just used it on the farm and never had a need to insure or license it for whatever reason.
Along I come and I want to buy the truck. We agree on a price. I pay the money, and I get the title that has no leans against it. I take it to get it transferred to my name and get the proper paperwork done because I plan on licensing and insuring it.
I have sold parts trucks this way too. The question of legality or morality never came up. To all those involved, that I have experience with, it was a no brainer. Why go through the red tape and do a lot of paper work when you are not planning to drive it on the street?
I guess one can ask too many questions. That is when they start telling you that you have been doing it wrong all along.
