I like to put a spot of clear silicone on the studs before I push them thru the hood, that way if the paint chips off around the hole when the emblem is pushed thru,it won't rust later on down the road because it'll be sealed. Just use it sparingly so it doesn't show up squeezing out around the letters, then you'll have to carefully clean up the mess.
