As I recall you don't have frost to deal with there, so pinning becomes dairly easy.
Chances are you also don't have bedrock you are going to reach easily, or even a solid rock layer.
Get yourself some drillstem and some 3 foot square pieces of plate steel, and go to driving. Once the pin stops driving easily, drop the plate over the pin and weld the plate to the pin. Then you see if you can drive it down farther. When you can't drive it any more its stable and you can put weight on the pin.
The system works for machinery that vibrates all day so it will also work for a house that doesn't vibrate.
