It may just be that I'm lucky Dave, but I can tell you that in 25 years of restoring cars & trucks & using DOT5 fluid, I've never changed a wheel cylinder or caliper. I restored a 1962 Cadillac for my father 20 years ago. That car has less than 3000 miles in 20 years & hasn't budged in 3 years...brakes work like brand new.
I'm 100% sold on silicone fluid. I've never felt any softer pedal symptoms that I've heard of from others...the only thing I can say I don't like about silicone is it's a lot harder getting double flared joints to seal with DOT5. It's like it's thinner or something.
The other advantage...no more rusty floors or paint removed when spilt :)
DOT3 is just so corrosive.
It's worth the small extra payment to me & I've never changed fluid in any car I've ever installed it in.
I love the stuff...now...where do I get a few cheap gallons :):)
