Everyone will be mandated to have health insurance or pay a fine. In the first year the fine is $96.00 or 1 percent of your gross wages, whichever is greater. If you made $40,000, your fine would be $400.00. A decent insurance plan for a family of four runs upwards of $3200.00. Which is the lesser of the evils if you're already financially struggling? Especially when the IRS will conveniently take it from your refund.
