Let's see... I have a couple of those oval tin cans with windshield washing cloths in them, a 1950's bag of oil absorbent (same as kitty litter, but I don't think people bought kitty litter back then), a vial of touch-up paint for my dad's 1976 Chrysler New Yorker, and a half-used bottle of Isotox insecticide. I should have saved some cans of oil from back when oil still came in cans.
And then there's a cigar box with parts for one of grandpa's drag saws, grandma's giant cookie tin full of buttons, great-grandpa's Scribner log scale stick and falling axe, two grocery receipts from Dickens' store circa 1930-something... Yeah, I save stuff too.
I hope that brake fluid doesn't rust its way through the can. I had an unused round quart can of "Pure gum spirits of turpentine" made by the Turpentine and Rosin Factors of Texas, Inc., and certified as complying with the US Naval Stores Act. For a couple years I noticed the basement smelled especially fresh and woodsy. Finally I noticed all the turpentine had leaked out through a rusty seam at the bottom of the can.
