All depends on who you ask and how familiar they are with the hub & drum mating configuration. If possible and convenient, turning drums with hubs is going to be the safe bet. If the drum mounting is a hub pilot affair, then you can get by turning without the hubs. Chances are B&C either broke down the hubs out of necessity or they knew turning without hubs would work fine with your drums. I turn all our hub pilot drums on a fixture and we have no issues with out of round.
