If you are using hot rolled the black surface should come off. if you can get cold rolled or get it abraded first i would do so . I had my plate radius bent at a shop . A sharp right angle does not look stock . The bottom of mine is tubing , This is because I was looking for additional side protection , if i had wanted the truck for just the occasional run I would have had the bottom edge rolled too , but at a tighter radius .
