If you have the wheels centered and the steering wheel centered then attach the pitman arm you will get equal turns left and right as everything has been centered. I see what you are saying if the pitman is far from vertical. But being off vertical a spline or two would not cause the problem.

I will pull my truck out today and see what I have.
