Welding a rim on a truck that had just come back from Mexico. But I always wonder if the tire hadn't gone flat from the crack leaking, and they used the Mexicaneer system to re-seat the bead: dump in a table spoon of gasoline, and toss in a match. Instant bead seat. Continue to pump it up with a bicycle pump. So I always figured the welder lit off some gas fumes.
I've always figured to remove the valve, let out the air, and leave the valve out before welding any rim.
I'm not sure whether our low pressure tires would have enough 'compression ratio' to start the reaction. Still, zero psi is better than 40.
