Tim, only passing on what has been passed to me by an older guy with a lot of tire experience. Just looked at a rim and I reckon the piece of metal out of the hole the valve goes through would weigh more than the valve, but as you say with the tires we run I don't think it makes a lot of difference. All the assembled split ring wheels I have, the splits are opposite the valves, even on the remains of the '46 truck.
