I just built a bed that uses a 7,000 lb dump. I have a regular set of full size gates, and some solid short sides that I use 90% of the time when I'm not loaded up, or just moving dirt or pallet type stuff. The head board I have only comes up half way with a little taper starting halfway up,like the one you have in your mock-up, and I use a set of shortie gates across the headboard to get full height when I use the full-size gates (if that makes sense). It's been working out very well for me, and the short sides are a good look for the truck as well. It gets comments every time I'm out with it, and I don't even have the good wood in it yet.
I haven't made any pictures yet since I haven't set the wood in the bed permanently . I still need to paint the strips with some Imron. If I have sun this weekend, I can get some pictures made up of the headboard, and the different sides in place that I'm using, if you aren't in too big of a hurry.
