Above all, your safety is tops. I suggest you find the method used to test this type of boom truck and perform it before you go up in it again. NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) has test procedures for Fire Dept Ladder trucks and elevating platforms. I dont know how these would apply to your boom truck.
I have seen pictures of broken FD Ladder trucks that seriously failed the testing. Its your life, get it checked and approved.

Our 100' Seagrave Ladder Truck had back up on back up to rotate the turn table and lower the ladder in event of main engine failure. I would not be surprised to find you also have alternate methods to get the boom down slow and safe.
