if it is cracked, shouldn't you be able to see it? at least if it's on top. I would think you'd be able to see it if you had a good flashlight and ran the piston up to the top of the bore. if the skirt is cracked then tough luck but, I'd certainly pull the plugs and have a look. couldn't hurt.
