They made the WDX first, in 1946. The M37 came later. There was no need for such a great of an offset pumpkin in the M37, as it was less tractor and more military, so they went back to a more centered pumpkin similar to the WWII Dodges and civilian trucks.
I have never owned an M37, but what I gather from reading this Forum for the past 10 years is that the track width on the M37 axle does not match the track width on the WDX axle. I believe those who convert to centered pumpkins on their WDX-WM300 model trucks use a 3/4-ton WWII Dodge axle assembly as the track width matches.
