The other unemployed group that you referred to: "Those that gave up as they determined that there was nothing available for them" That rate is 16.7% if I remember correctly from the radio. So if you put that together with the 9.7% you get around 26% which is a number the politicians do not want to talk about. A lot of the 16.7% are older people that have a lesser chance of being hired because of age. Yes age discrimination is alive and well. It is just difficult to legally prove as the companies have developed very good cover up methods.
