I think the movie was the first or second year I was here. It was like the circus coming to town; plenty of jobs for anyone who knew how to operate a paint brush or a hammer, plus everyone could go eat at the mess tent any time they wanted -- nobody was paying attention to who was supposed to be there or not. We all went to see the movie in Kellogg when it opened. It was a pretty bad movie, but it was fun seeing familiar places and having the extras holler when they got their 2 seconds on the screen.
We were just really lucky with this high-speed chase that the guy didn't wipe out and plow through a crowd of high school kids or somebody's house. At the speed he was going, he would have gone in one side of the house and out the other. Our deputies also did a great job of foiling his desire to do a suicide-by-cop episode. I haven't heard the rest of the story yet, but I expect I'll get it tomorrow.
In hindsight, though, instead of everybody chasing him around down up and down and back and forth along every downtown street, they should have just blocked off the only three exits from town and waited until he realized he was trapped. Most likely he would have found only one exit unblocked -- the road over Moon Pass -- and he would have headed up there until he got safely stuck in the snow. Of course by the time he got to Wallace, they'd been chasing him a long ways on the freeway and everybody was probably getting pretty hot.
