46 WDX would be my preference, without a doubt.
Better looking dash & interior. I like the first series bed the best & the improvements from 46-68 are trivial & any can be adapted to a WDX should someone really want.
The only appreciable improvement in my mind was the syncro transmission...& that's really only an issue if you intend to let your grandma drive your truck :)
