I recently purchased a 63 WM300 with 39k miles. It ran fine the first week but has since been quitting after 3-4 miles of travel. I first thought the fuel pump was bad as it didn't seem to be getting gas to the carb. I replaced the pump with an electric one (7-9psi). This did not help. I noticed that the heat riser valve had been wired closed, but the wire had slipped off. I re-wired it but the engine still quits. Could a constantly open or burned out heat riser valve cause my problem? Is it vapor lock? The engine will run fine once it cools off, If it is partially cooled it will idle but will die if given gas. I have ordered ignition parts including a coil, but they haven't arrived yet. In case that may be a problem. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Jerry
