Why do so many different tails get told about these sort of things? I have personally measured and found that Dodge stepside beds could be found to be 6'6",7'6",8',9' depending on the wheelbase or application.I have found many more 6'6" - 7'6" beds on older Dodges than 8'or 9'.The 9'bed was usually found on the D-300 PU with those oddball sized tires and rims in the 60s.The 8' bed is basically the same 8'box used on the oldstyle PWs. Tailgates have changed from time to time in that they either have no Dodge lettering or the letter style was changed a few times. You'll have to checkout as many different year tailgates as you can to find the right one or the one that suits you.The rear oldstyle fenders will most likely be the hardest parts to find.
So now don't let anyone tell you the later model 8' stepside beds won't work (60s-70s)
because they will.No need to cut down a 9' semi-rare bed or be discouraged when you hear misinformation about later model beds being too short, simply find a 8' bed and a set of oldstyle fenders and waala, your good to go.
