combat rims bead locks?

As you stated Brian most of these metal bands that locked the tire to the rim have been removed over the years. What about welding a backing ring to the rim so as to create a clamping effect as in modern bead locks? It would be one side only and make installing the tire more difficult. What does anyone think?
