A spigot is a smaller section on the end of a shaft and to support that you need a spigot bearing, whereas a pilot is someone who guides (a ship or plane). Comes from the english language so I suppose we each use the description we are used to using. Who gives a rats as long as he gets it right when he does the overhaul;-)
